Adult Day Services
TBI Residential and Community Services provides structured programming for our clients from 9:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday, year-round with the exception of major holidays and inclement weather. Programming is provided at several sites in and around Duluth, Minnesota, and participants are given the opportunity to engage in a range of programs and activities based on their own person-centered care plan.
Our day program staff work with clients in small groups to encourage and support innovative and rehabilitative programming centered on clients’ goals, interests and dreams.
Our program enables clients to participate in structured group-based activities that nurture new skills through a variety of topics including art, music, technology, sports, science and more. The areas of focus vary based upon client interests and emphasize the development of social skills, cognitive and motor functioning, coping skills, community integration and independence, initiation, attention span and task completion.
In addition to our site-based programs, we provide daily community activities such as trips to the library, exercise facilities, local amusement venues, and participation in special events.
Our Vocational Center and Work Program offer structured day support for our clients with an emphasis on vocational skills. These programs provide skill building and job readiness opportunities both on-site and in the community, with assistance from qualified, trained staff and job coaches.
We strive to help motivated individuals work toward and achieve employment in the regular labor market earning the same wages as anyone else. Our vocational program strives to help individuals build these skills and develop individual successes for all of our clients.
At the Vocational Center, staff work with clients in small groups to promote independence and integration through exploration of issues related to independent living, public transportation, budgeting, problem-solving skills, socialization, skills to maintain a household, and more.
Our Work Program offers participants paid employment opportunities such as lawn care, janitorial and painting crews, clerical work, grocery packing and delivery, among others. Programs are individualized to meet the interests and abilities of each person. In addition, the program provides opportunities for enrichment through participation in Day Program activities in the community.
All of the Adult Day Services within TBI Residential and Community Services provide support in the areas of daily living, learning, and community involvement. We develop programs with a goal of promoting the development of social skills that are necessary in order to integrate individuals with disabilities into the community. Our programs help to foster a sense of community with our clients here at TBI and also help our clients become active in the community. Some of our past community activities have included: Valleyfair, Minnesota Twins games, the MN State Fair, the Edge Waterpark in Duluth, Huskies games and many more!
In addition to daily community outings, our vocational programming teaches clients to use community resources to help them find success in meeting their education and community employment goals. Through the support of our programming staff, individuals are given the opportunity to make their own choices to guide them toward achieving their goals toward independent living. We work directly with our clients to create a person-centered daily structure that provides each individual with a specialized care plan that meets the individual’s unique needs.
